Serving Edgerton
Roll-off dumpsters delivered to Edgerton
Edgerton still smells faintly of its tobacco years if you know where to look, in the big brick warehouses near the tracks and in the deep, tall-ceilinged houses the buyers built. It is a compact city with a genuine downtown, and then it opens north toward Lake Koshkonong, where the housing changes character completely into cottages, seasonal places and year-round homes squeezed onto old platted lake lots. We rent dumpsters into both worlds in the same week. A warehouse-era house wants a big box for plaster and knob-and-tube era debris; a lake place wants a smaller container placed carefully on a narrow drive that has three feet of clearance on either side.
Edgerton was the tobacco capital of Wisconsin for decades, and the warehouse district downtown is the physical proof, with heavy masonry buildings that keep finding new uses. The city also claims Sterling North, whose boyhood home is now a museum and whose book Rascal put Edgerton on a lot of bookshelves. Housing runs from 1880s and 1890s frame homes near the core, through solid interwar bungalows, to postwar and modern subdivisions on the edges. North and east of town, along the Rock River and the Koshkonong shoreline near Newville and the Indianford dam, you get cottages that have been added onto three times. Typical work is warehouse and commercial clean-out, farmhouse and outbuilding cleanouts in Albion and Fulton townships, cottage gut jobs, and roof tear-offs before winter.

Routes & coverage
Getting to Edgerton from Janesville
We head north from Janesville on US-51 and follow it right into Edgerton, which takes about twenty minutes with no traffic. If the load is running to the lake side we will usually take I-39/90 north and come off at the Edgerton exit instead, then cut east on County N toward Newville. Lake lots often need the smaller truck and a bit of scouting before delivery day.

Local rules
Placement and permits in Edgerton
On private property — a driveway, a yard, a farm lane, a job site — you will not normally need a permit anywhere in Rock County, and that covers the large majority of our Edgerton deliveries. What matters far more is whether the surface can take the weight and whether the truck can physically get in.
If the container has to sit on a public street, terrace, alley or right-of-way in Edgerton, that usually changes. Check with City of Edgerton before you book, and expect requirements around reflectors, barricades or overnight lighting. Rock County handles matters outside village and city limits. Rules genuinely differ from one municipality to the next around here, so please do not rely on what a neighbour in another town was told.
A few practical things that come up repeatedly in Edgerton:
- Access. Our truck needs roughly 60 feet of straight approach and about 23 feet of vertical clearance to raise the hoist. Mature trees and low service drops rule out the bigger containers on plenty of older streets.
- Spring thaw. March and April are the highest-risk window in Rock County. Saturated ground, soft lawns and posted weight limits on rural roads all bite at once. Tell us the surface and we will plan around it.
- Winter. Frozen ground actually drives beautifully; ice does not. Clear and sand the placement area before we arrive, and remember snow and rain add real weight to an open container.
- Summer heat. Asphalt softens badly on a hot July afternoon. We book morning deliveries where we can and always put boards down.
- Covenants. Newer subdivisions sometimes restrict how long a container can sit visible from the street. Worth a two-minute check.
Our permit and placement guide goes into more depth, and this article covers driveway protection properly.

Answers
Dumpster rental in Edgerton — common questions
Can you get a dumpster onto a Lake Koshkonong cottage lot?
Most of the time, yes, but Koshkonong lots near Edgerton are narrow and the drives are often gravel with overhanging trees. We need roughly sixty feet of straight approach and about twenty-three feet of vertical clearance to raise the box. If your lane will not give us that, we will set the container at the road end or on a neighbour's approved pad. Send photos when you book and we will scout it in advance.
Do Edgerton permits apply if the dumpster is on my driveway?
No. On a private Edgerton driveway you are dealing with us, not city hall. Street or terrace placement is different, and the City of Edgerton handles those approvals along with winter snow route restrictions. Township addresses in Fulton or Albion follow their own town rules. When in doubt ring (608) 531-8367 and we will tell you who to call before your project day.
What do I do with old tobacco shed or barn wood from an Edgerton property?
Clean, untreated barn board from an Edgerton outbuilding often has resale value, so pull the good lengths before the demolition starts. Everything else, including rotten sheeting, roofing, straw-packed insulation and nailed-off framing, loads fine into a 30 or 40 yard. Keep dirt and concrete out of a mixed load, because fill weight climbs fast and we would rather bring a separate heavy-debris container for that.
How long can I keep the container in Edgerton?
Our standard rental window covers most Edgerton projects comfortably, and we can extend if a lake remodel or a warehouse clean-out drags. What we do ask is that you tell us early if you need more time in late autumn, because once the ground freezes and thaws repeatedly a container that has sat on soft lawn can settle in. Call (608) 531-8367 and we will arrange a swap or a pull.
