Clinton is a farm village that happens to sit next to an interstate, which gives it a quiet main street and a very short drive time from our yard. The village core is compact, mostly modest frame houses and a handful of older two-storeys, and it dissolves into Rock County cropland almost immediately. That means our Clinton calls split neatly. In the village it is roof tear-offs, basement cleanouts, deck removals and the occasional house that needs emptying after a long life. Out in the township it is barns, machine sheds, hog buildings and fencerow junk that has been accumulating since the seventies. Clinton has always been an agricultural service village, sitting between Janesville and the Walworth County line with Turtle Creek drainage running through the surrounding countryside.
